In the Name of God Amen I Edward Mathews of the City

of Dublin Esq being at present in tolerable state of health but in as perfect Reason and Judgement as ever I had thanks be to God Do make this my last Will and Testatment in manner and form following

Whereas by the deeds of lease and release bearing date respectively the 13th and 14th days of April 1750 I Vested in Trustees therein Named all my real Estate and Leases for lives and years in Trust and for the

use of all my Credits [creditors] therein Named which said Trust could never be Executed by the Folly of a very few of them and thereby deprived me for the space of very near seven years to their [?]ownytat

Co/v and the Distruction of me and my Family First I devise and Bequeath to my Dear Wife ^ Sarah Mathews my sons Daniel Hill and Edward Mathews as Trustees and the Survivors and Survivor of them And the Heirs and

Exrs [executors] amd adms [administrators] respectively of such survivor All my Real Estate Leases for Lives and years ^ either in possession reversion or remainder and all my Personal Estate of what Name or kind soever ^ either in ... upon the trusts and to the uses intents and purposes following

hereinafter Named First I desire my said Trustees to Compound and Agree with my Credrs [creditors] in the best ^ and most reasonable manner they can and which I am persuaded three parts in four at least will readily come into and [?]think and

in such case I empower my said Trustees to Compound and Agree with my Credrs Sell and dispose of so much of my Lands as will raise the sum of 4000 to be paid and distributed among them / Edward

Mathews / in such share and proportion ( due regard being had to the Poorest of them ) according to a scheme by me laid out for the purpose which scheme I have showed to many of my said creditors and

several other persons who have approved thereof And in regard of the Great Sums I have already Paid and am willing to pay and thought reasonable that I should reserve some provision for my Numerous

Family Especially if it be considered the Vast Sums I have paid by being security for others and the great losses I have sustained during my long confinement I Devise to my said dear wife the sum of

800- I Devise to my Eight Daughters Elizabeth Grace Sarah Jane Ann Charlot Leslie and Mary Mathews and to every of them the sum of 200 with Interest from the said respective sums at the

rate of 6 by the hundred yearly Provided always that if either or any of my said daughters shall marry without the Consent of their Mother then and in such case the sum devised to such

Daughter so Marrying must go to and be decided among the other sisters share and share alike and in case any of them shall die unmarried and without Issue then my Will is that the Portion

so Devised to her or them so dying shall go in like manner to the Surviving Daughters I Devise and Bequeath to my said son Daniel Mathews the sum of 100 I Devise to / Edward Mathews /

my said son Hill Mathews the sum of 100 I Devise to my said son Edward Mathews the sum of 150 payable when he shall arrive at the age of 21 Years I desire my leases in and Near Newry in the County

of Down may not be disposed of but in case any of my said Daughters shall be disposed of in Marriag I commend it to my said Trustees to raise the said Portion out of the said last mentioned Lands and I hope they will

be sufficient to anwser the several Legacies hereinbefore bequeathed And in case any of the Lives in the said Leases should fall I Humbly hope my Honoured Land Lord the Right Honourable Wills Earl of Hillsborough will

be pleased to Renew the said Lease upon Reasonable Terms and in as much as I have been Tenant to his Family near forty years and his [?]Loys [Lordship?] has been always been pleased to say that I paid my Rent punctually to his Loshps [?]fif [Lordship's]

Satisfaction I Devise to my Eldest son Andrew Mathews the sum of one shilling and no more in return for his Undutiful Insolence and disrespectful Behaviour toward me for the space of 5 years last

Past during my heavy Troubles And it is my Intent and meaning that Neither he nor his [?]Pastorily [?family] shall ever receive out of my real or personal Estate ^ in possession reversion or Remainder or out of my effects to the value this sum of one shilling more and order and direct my said

Trustees to File a Bill in His Majesties High Court of Chancery In Ireland to Perpetuate this my last Will in order to prevent any possibility of my said Son And/ or his heirs receiving any benefit from my

said Estate or Leases in possession reversion or Remainder ^ or any other my effects whatsoever I devise to my son John Mathews the sum of one Shilling and no more having already laid out for him and for his use a very considerable sum of Money

and far more than any of his Sisters or Brothers will receive out of any of my Effects I order that my books in the Hand of my said son Daniel my be valued and when he gets any Preferment in the Church

of the value of one Hundred Pounds Yearly that he shall pay such value to ^ my sd brother [?]Tintus his said Mother and Brothers Hill and [?]Edid [?Daniel] to [?]Increase [? ....] for paying the Legacies hereinbefore Bequeathed I [?]... order

and direct that in case any of my Effects should be got in so as to Exceed the specific Legacies hereinbefore mentioned then such exceeding to be paid and distributed among such of my Poor Credrs [creditors] as abated any part of those

debts which were due to them respectively on the day of my actual confinement I desire that I might be buried in the Churchyard next to which I shall die without any Expense I order and direct that my son

Andrew shall not be Consulted or Intermeddle in any of my affairs whatsoever having sufficient Experience not to put any Trust or Confidence in him and as to all the rest and residue of my Real Estate and

Chattles Real or personal Either in Possession reversion or Remainder and all ^my other Effects Effects whether Real or personal I Devise and Bequeath the same to my said Trustees for the Benefit of my said Eight

Daughters subject never [?]Iholefs to the Conditions Annexed to their respective Portions hereinbefore Bequeathed I do recommend and require my said three sons Daniel Hill and Edward Mathews to live in [?]Having

and affection with their said Mother and Sisters and to have as little Dealing with their said Brothers Andw and John as they shall think proper and I do Constitute and appoint my said dear Wife Sarah Mathews

and my said sons Daniel Hill and Edward Mathews Trustees and Exors [executors] of this my last Will In Witness whereof I have set my Hand and Seal this 10th day of January 1756 Edward Mathews

(Seal) Signed and Sealed Published and declared by the said Edward Mathews as his last Will and Testatment in presence of us who at his request and in his ^and in the presence of presence of Each other have subscribed our [obscured] Witness

Whereas by deed poll bearing equal date herewith Peter Gustavus Rock Mathews Esqre has released to Terrence ONeil James McDowell Patrick McConville Patrick Doran Junr Patrick Doran Senr and John Doran severally and respectively the several land Tenements and premises therein mentioned as by relation being thereto had may appear. Now know all men by these presents that the said Terrence ONeil James McDowell Patrick McConville Patrick Doran Junr Patrick Doran Senr and John Doran and each of them Doth hereby for himself his heirs exe'ors and Adm'ors declare that the said deed was executed by the said Peter Gustavus Rock Mathews and the said release was made to each of them severally in Trust for the said Peter and his heirs and for no other uses intent or purpose whatsoever In witness whereof the sd several persons have ^hereunto put their hands and seals the twentythird day of March one thousand eight hundred and twelve -

In the presence of us the hand (hereunto) being put interlined in the last line but one
